Silicone implants are made of a silicone elastomer shell, and come filled with silicone gel. Today’s silicone implants come in a variety of different sizes and are filled with with a thicker gel, giving it a semi-solid consistency similar to a gummy bear.
What Are My Other Options?
Saline implants are made of a silicone elastomer shell that is filled with saline (salt water) solution during your operation. The solution is similar to the salt water we all have in our bodies.
Recently introduced to Canada, this implant option, has the feel of silicone but contains saline instead. This option works best for patients who prefer to avoid silicone but still prefer its natural feel. It is FDA and Health Canada approved.
